2020 Our 5 Best Areas to live in the Peak District

The Peak District National Park runs down the spine of the UK from Derbyshire to Yorkshire. Containing some of the most beautiful areas to live in the UK and the most stunning Landscapes, the Peak District should be top of the list for rural day trippers and ramblers.

If you are considering relocating permanently to the Peaks for work or pleasure; we thought it would be helpful to put together some of our favourite areas…

1, Edale

One of the most picturesque villages in the whole of the UK; it was voted in the Sunday time as the best places to live in the Midlands. Edale is best known for being the start (or End) of the Pennine Way – a 268 mile trail that ends in Yorkshire.

Not just for the experienced hikers, there are walks to cater for everybody. This town also has the advantage of the Train Station, connecting Manchester to Sheffield. A population of nearly 400, Edale is a small village so finding property to buy or rent maybe difficult, so if the opportunity does come up don’t wait around.

2, Holmfirth

Holmfirth is in the North Peaks, with a population of 5000 it is a medium size town with many amenities along with a many pubs and restaurants. Classic stone built cottages and a hillside overlooking a tranquil River Holme, Holmfirth could be postcard picture.

Nestled inside the Holme Valley you have great access to the rest of the peak district’s wonderful scenery and also commutable to cities such as Leeds or Huddersfield. There tends to me a good range of properties to choose from for renting of for buying.

3, Bollington

Bollington is a small town in the west of the peaks with a population of 8000, 3 miles from Macclesfield and therefore good access the Manchester Airport and many major travel links. Certainly if you are looking for something slightly closer to civilization, and yet still have wonderfully beautiful hillside walks and cycling along the River Dean (at attractive prices!) , this is the one for you.

4, Bakewell

Situated on the River Why, Bakewell is a Small 12th Century Market town in the South East of the Peak District. Best known for its famous confection the Bakewell Pudding. The Town has many amenities and attractions close by, including Chatsworth House (a Stately Home open to public), Haddon Hall and the Monsal Trail. With a population of 3500 this town has the potential for good rentals as well and opportunities for buying.

5, Castleton

Castleton is situated in the Derbyshire part of the Peak District. And as its name suggests contains a 11th Century Castle overlooking the village. Another cherry picked miniature village for walkers and scenery enthusiasts, Castleton embellishes everything that the Peak District is about; good pubs, excellent walks, delightful stone built cottages and views to die for. Well worth a visit and then you’ll have made you mind up where to move to!

These are just some of our favourite areas, there are plenty more to choose from!
